Executive Director

Dr. Miriam Goldstein is a marine scientist and policy expert with over a decade of experience bridging scientific research and environmental policy. She currently serves as the Executive Director for the National Ocean Protection Coalition (NOPC).

Prior to joining NOPC, Goldstein served as the Director for Ocean Policy at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, where she coordinated federal implementation of Biden-Harris ocean priorities, resulting in the designation of Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary and development of the first-ever federal Ocean Climate Action Plan and Ocean Justice Strategy.

Goldstein’s previous policy roles include Senior Director for Conservation Policy at the Center for American Progress, where she led the overall conservation program and the ocean policy team. Her government service includes roles as Legislative Director for Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) and positions with the offices of Sen. Edward Markey (D-MA) and the House Natural Resources Committee Democratic staff.

Goldstein holds a Ph.D. in biological oceanography from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, where she studied the ecological impacts of plastic pollution in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. She lives in Washington, D.C. with her family.
